Last week Sofn’free HairXperts celebrated #freedomtocreate where we saw different hairstylists from all walks of life competing against their creative skills to #defythenorm and not forgetting the Grand prize of R250 000. The Masters Challenge brings new generation to cutting edge hair styling set to discover raw and extra-ordinary talent in the South African black hair industry. It is also aimed at uplifting local hairstylists with relevant information and education in black hair care. It also explores hairstylists’ needs for creative and innovative hair trends and styles using the correct hair care products and techniques.
The exhibition of avant- garde excellence was hosted by the one and only Somizi Mhlongo, who entertained the audience with everything from fabulous hair and outfits to descending from the ceiling on a wire harness.
After a jaw-dropping exhibition of skill and artistry, the contestants congregated on stage and the winners were finally announced. Nicole Pearce from Images 1 PE Academy in Port Elizabeth was named the Young Xperts winner from all the student stylists, claiming R30 000.
Arthur Tlhalatsi from Port Elizabeth in the Eastern Cape walked away as the Viewer’s Choice winner, as the audience’s favourite and being awarded R30 000.
Doctor Sithole from Vosloorus in Gauteng came out on top for the Technical Excellence award for displaying an unmatched level of skill and took home R30 000.
Khe Zondi from Pietermaritzburg in KwaZulu Natal was awarded the Defy the Norm prize for excelling at avante-garde styling, winning himself R30 000.
Finally, in a cloud of confetti and pyrotechnics, Treavor Mokoaleli from Bethlehem in the Free State was crowded the overall winner of the Sofn’free HairXperts Grand
