Name, where do you come from, where do you live?
My name is Con Fox. I’m Greek but I live in Cyprus.
When did you start creating That Foxy Bisssh dolls?
I started my doll collection about two years ago. At first I was just collecting dolls, mostly second hand dolls. There is something magnificent about a used item; it carries its own story and it’s up to you whether you want to carry on its legacy or turn it into something completely new, something that is one of a kind.
What inspired the idea?
Most of my girls hair became damaged over time so I had to get creative to fix it. I tried re-rooting with doll hair at first but I wasn’t satisfied with the results. So I decided to use yarn instead of hair. I love the thick and wild effect it gives, it kind of reminds me of my hair when it grows longer. It was love at first sight. Not only do I find the process extremely stress relieving but the result (as you can see for yourself) is extraordinarily beautiful.
How do you stay consistent?
I’ve always had my own beauty standards. I’ve always looked up to people, especially women who are confident in their own skin and don’t give a damn about what anybody else thinks or says. A few years ago, I was signed up in a modeling agency and people in the industry kept mocking my hair for being too thick and too curly. I guess my dolls were my own therapy. They helped me own my beauty and come to peace with myself.
Do you sell your dolls?
I don’t sell the dolls I already made, but at some point I would love to start a shop where people can bring their dolls for a makeover.
Who is your target market?
The ideal target market for me would be adult doll collectors. Shout-out to all the adults out there who love and collect dolls. Since I started posting pictures of my dolls on Instagram, I made some great friends all over the globe who share the same hobby as me and support my work to the fullest.
What would you like to change in the dolls business?
That’s a great question. First of all, I would love to work in the doll business. I think we need more uniqueness and individuality not only in terms of size, color but also style wise. I would love to see dolls with different facial features than the average Barbie with the big blue eyes, slick nose and bright smile. I want to see more dolls that both adults and kids will actually be able to identify with. The doll Evolves movement by Mattel was a great start but that won’t be enough. I want to encourage people to stop following meaningless trends and be able to be themselves and own it.
Name people that are owning their crowns unapologetically
The first person who comes to my mind is Amy Winehouse. I’ll always love Amy, she inspired me on so many different levels. She was herself 100% and she owned her style to the fullest. I also look up to Rihanna she can easily rock any crown, she is a chameleon and I love it.
What does owning your crown mean to you?
To me “owning your crown” means that you’re in a state of mind where you no longer suffer from self doubt and that you’re confident enough to be one with your vision of beauty.
Describe your Dolls crowns personality? I’ve never seen dolls with that amazing hair!
Thank you very much my dear. The personality I want my dolls to have is simply unique and fearless. I don’t want my girls to be one with the crowd, I want them to stand out. As an artist I use dolls as a means to express my thoughts about individuality and uniqueness. Unfortunately nowadays young people make crazy efforts to fit in with what society and mass media project to them as perfection. As the great Marilyn Monroe said “Imperfection is beauty” and I couldn’t agree more. I want to encourage people to accept themselves for who they are and how they look.
Do you have a crown stylist that helps you or you do it yourself?
I do it by myself but sometimes I ask for my brother’s opinion as well. He is the person I trust the most and I truly respect his point of view.
What inspires the crowns?
Well as soon as I have a doll in my hands I try to visualize what color would suit her the best. How thick her hair should be, whether I want her to be good or evil. Each doll I make has her own unique crown. I stand up for O.O.A.K (one of a kind).
Please share the comments you get from people?
I feel blessed because since I started doing my crowns a lot of people have expressed their love for my work. When I started my crowns I couldn’t even imagine this overwhelmingly positive reaction and I couldn’t be happier. It simply gives me the push to keep doing what makes me happy.
Please share your interests
My doll collecting and restyling hobby is one of my main interests but I also love listening to music while I draw or paint. I love taking pictures not only of my dolls but of myself as well. I guess I’m up for anything that involves art.
